That Jane Austen pleaded the cause of woman’s dependence in her last novels is also true. This might have been a result of her growing old, of her becoming more melancholic. However, this does not mean that the values she was praising now in women were not true or valuable. I myself agree with these values up to a certain degree. Whether I achieved my goal when writing this diploma paper or not, I could not tell.
